  • Monhegan Island Light.<br /> This light is historically known as the first point sighted on most transatlantic voyages and as a well known landmark for seafarers. Constructed in 1824, it was the first lighthouse built from granite. In 1959 the light was automated and is now controlled by the Coast Guard.
