Hurricane Bill, 2009

When I saw the reports of Hurricane Bill traveling up the eastern seaboard I knew there would be an opportunity to photograph large waves along the coast of Maine. I looked at the map and decided to travel to Acadia National Park's, Schoodic Point. It was early Sunday morning as I made my way through the forrest from Clifton. The wind was blowing and the rain was falling and I thought to myself, I'll be the only on there.....boy, was I wrong. The park was full of spectators out to see the waves with many people carrying their cameras. I had to park about a mile away from the point and walk and as it turned out I was one of the last allowed in as the park closed due to the crowds.
The first six images show one of the biggest waves of the day, a rogue wave which was at least twice the normal size. It starting breaking well before its contact with the rocky shore. Unfortunately this wave washed several spectators into the ocean.

Jack- you have an amazing talent. I was just reading how they are opening up a new Campground there. It has great exposure and views to MDI. I've never been so lucky to capture rough seas. I truly enjoy what you have captured. I have some nice memories from there, none as impressive as this. We love the Lost Acadia. Hoping you are having a fabulous Winter in FLA.
